The Role
StillBeacon is a product engineering company. We help revenue-stage and mid-market businesses rebuild legacy web applications, untangle messy codebases, and launch reliable software in fixed 8–12 week windows.
We are opening a single position for an SEO Engineer Intern. This is an intensive, technical role designed as a direct pipeline into our permanent engineering team: based on performance during the 3–6 month period, this role converts into a Full-Time SEO Engineer position.
Unlike marketing agencies where SEO means writing low-quality blog articles or keyword stuffing, SEO at StillBeacon is software engineering. You will be working directly in modern Next.js and React codebases on Core Web Vitals optimization, programmatic page generation, JSON-LD knowledge graphs, and search indexation pipelines.
How Full-Time Conversion (PPO) Works
We do not hire interns for disposable busywork or administrative tasks. We hire interns we want to convert into full-time engineers.
During your 3 to 6 months, you will have transparent technical goals. We evaluate your conversion to a full-time role on three clear benchmarks:
Interns who hit these technical milestones receive a direct offer for a permanent, full-time SEO Engineer role with market salary and long-term career progression.
What You Will Do
- Profile & optimize Core Web Vitals: Measure field metrics (LCP, INP, CLS, TTFB) on production applications, optimize asset delivery, and eliminate hydration overhead in Next.js and React.
- Implement structured data: Write, validate, and maintain rich JSON-LD schemas (CreativeWork, JobPosting, Product, Organization, BreadcrumbList) that enable rich search results.
- Programmatic SEO systems: Help build edge-cached dynamic landing pages, automated sitemap generators, and canonical URL hierarchies for commercial queries.
- Indexation & search health: Monitor Google Search Console for crawl budget efficiency, soft 404s, mobile usability, and indexation gaps.
- Commercial search targeting: Map high-intent keywords for operations and product leaders seeking web application rebuilds and engineering pods.
- Ship production code: Work inside Git repositories, submit clean pull requests, and see your optimizations deployed to live customer-facing sites.
What We Look For
- Frontend foundations: Practical knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and basic familiarity with React or Next.js.
- Understanding of search mechanics: Familiarity with how search engines crawl, render, and index JavaScript-heavy applications (SSR, SSG, client hydration).
- Tooling familiarity: Curiosity or hands-on experience with Chrome DevTools Lighthouse, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, or similar tools.
- Analytical rigor: You verify hypotheses by inspecting network waterfalls, DOM trees, and server response headers rather than guessing.
- High ownership: You take pride in shipped work, ask sharp questions, and follow through to completion.
